To Whom It May Concern:
The Dustin Duncan Research Foundation, is a family research foundation dedicated to social justice and health equity research for and with minoritized and marginalized populations, communities, cultures. The topics we focus on, such as discrimination, resilience and mental health are critical areas of concern.
As an Educational Psychologist, I knew that being an active participant in the parent teacher association (PTA) at my children’s schools and supporting them in extracurricular activities would help my sons become well rounded, educated and highly motivated adults. However, educational status has not precluded them from subtle and overt forms of discrimination and the resultant physical and psychological harm including psychological distress. No matter ones race or ethnicity, it is painful for parents to watch their children experience microaggressions and other discriminatory acts on a daily basis because their skin color is seen as a weapon. We want to start the dialogue of how we are all more alike than we are different. Help us do that.
The Dustin Duncan Research Foundation has initiated a bold campaign with a goal of $1 million over the next 3 years. We are seeking donors at any monetary level. Initially, we are planning to provide small research grants ($5,000- $15,000) to graduate students to fund research in two primary areas related to social justice and health equity; namely 1) discrimination, harassment, bullying, trauma, stigma; and 2) mental health and related burdens, including psychological distress, anxiety, suicidality, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and self-harm.
We hope we can count on your support.
